Would My Child Benefit From Services?
Speech and Language Skills to Watch For:
13-18 months
– Follows basic directions
– Understands and uses words for common objects/actions/people
19-24 months
– Understands and uses at least 50 words by 19 months
– Starting to put 2+ words together (E.g., “more water”)
2-3 years
– Consistently using 2+ word combinations
– Starting to ask and answer basic questions
Also watch for delays in other areas of development
E.g., understanding, play, social, motor, cognitive, etc.
How Often Should My Child's Speech Be Understood By Others?
| 18 months | at least 25% |
| 2 years | at least 50% |
| 3 years | at least 75% |
| 5 years | at least 90-100% |
